Dear Knut,
Using the !ALPHA qualifier as you have done should allow the
pedigree to be read. I suspect the problem is in the pedigree contents or
structure. There should be some additional messages either in the .asr file
or maybe in the .asl file if you specify the L command line option
which will point to the problem.
If you can't discover an error, email me the file.
