Binary Dependent variable in ASReml-R

Hello,

I have been using both ASReml and ASReml-R for my genetic analysis using a pedigree. I am relatively familiar with R, but I am having issues with the fact that my dependent variable in the model is a binary variable (Sex). When I try to run the animal model, I receive an error that says the response is a factor and I can not run the analysis. Does someone have any insight into this problem and how I could remedy it.

Thanks,

Tony
