In my recent email I said that

datafile
Y ~ mu X !r spl(X)

will produce a spline with no more than 50 knot points.

Remy then asks 'Does that mean I can no longer have a spline with more
than 50 points?'

to which the answer is NO, but to do so you need to use the !KNOTS qualifier

e.g.

datafile !KNOTS 100
Y - mu X !r spl(X)

means that the spline can have up to 100 points and if there are 100+ points,
the spline will be based on 100 equidistant points running from
min(X) to max(X)
