Dear ASREmlers,
I am currently running random regression analysis of beef cattle growth data using orthogonal polynomials (how do this differ from legendre polynomials?). I have obtained the variance-covariance coefficient matrices of random effects which i have to multiply with the matrix of polynomial coefficients at various ages to obtain the variance component estimates. However, upon doing this, i end up with negative estimates of variances and thus negative variance ratios, which are not supposed to be. What could be possible cause of this?
I also would request you to explain to me how to estimate eigenvalues and corresponding vectors and functions in ASReml. Lastly please assist me to write a .pin file for estimation of genetic parameters, using the output files, currently i am doing this using the matrix function of Ms Excel.
Kind regards
Wasike, C. Bwire
